Hardworking Concrete that's easy on the planet.
LOW CARBON CONCRETE
THE GREENER CONCRETE CHOICE
Eco-Max is a high-performance, low-carbon concrete.
Made with Eco-Cem (GGBFS), which replaces General Purpose (GP) cement. By reacting with calcium hydroxide during hydration, it forms additional calcium silicate hydrate, enhancing strength and durability. Offered by ready-mix concrete companies, Eco-Max opens new possibilities for sustainable construction.
Further Benefits of Eco-Max

High Performing
Eco-Max concrete, made with Eco-Cem, delivers superior durability for longer-lasting, more sustainable structures. Designed for demanding environments it excels in marine, infrastructure, roading, and flooring applications.

Chemical Resistant
When used in concrete to replace GP cement, Eco-Cem forms a denser concrete matrix preventing the ingress of chemicals such as chlorides and sulphates.

Reduced Shrinkage
Because Eco-Max concrete is denser, it also has lower shrinkage than the standard concrete made using GP cement. Contact us to find out more about shrinkage on your project.

Lower Embodied Carbon
Eco-Cem is a SCM (Supplementary Cementitious Materials) which partially replaces GP cement in Eco-Max. The result is up to 70% less embodied carbon. We are doing our part to create a sustainable future for New Zealand.
Eco-Max FAQS

How much does it cost?
Eco-Max is a premium product but provides a lower-carbon, more durable, and long-lasting concrete. Talk to your local concrete company for specific pricing options.
How much carbon is reduced?
The design mix is in the hands of the end-user but results in at least 40%, and up to 70%, less carbon than standard concrete.
What can Eco-Max be used for?
The exact formulation will depend on the application, but Eco-Max concrete can be used for all concrete products from driveways to precast, cast in situ beams to house floors.
How is Eco-Max specified?
The designer need only specify EcoMax Concrete for the concrete type, strength and a target cement replacement (either a set percentage or as much as possible). The contractor can then work with the concrete producer to establish the best mix for the application and time of year.
Satisfying NZS 3101:2006 Concrete Structures Standard for Durability?
Eco-Max concrete can be used to satisfy all Exposure Classification requirements of Table 3.6 within NZS 3101.
Exposure classes A&B: Any Eco-Max Concrete meets this standard.
Exposure Classification C: Eco-Max containing 65% Eco-Cem satisfies these criteria.
Is Eco-Max durable?
Yes. As well as being a low carbon option, Eco-Max is our most durable concrete yet. It has higher density and lower porosity and so is more resistant to chloride and acid attack. Hence it brings real benefits to concrete in harsh environments, from marine and infrastructure projects to roading and floors.
Where can I get Eco-Max

Environmental Product Declaration
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently produced report of the effects across a wide variety of criteria. The EPD for our Xtra-Cem (GP Cement) and GGBFS Eco-Cem were produced by Thinkstep, a well known and very reputable NZ based company, and published in February 2022 and August 2024 respectively.
